07: EarthBound

When I found Earthbound (or Mother 2) in my teens it somewhat blew my mind. "Quirky" is a good work to describe the game, it's very funny, disturbing, even quite a trippy experience. Crazy items, characters, monsters and the final battle. Oh, and the music. The music is great (sometimes weird, but great). The first main character, a kid named Ness beats enemies with a baseball bat and needs to call to her mom ever now to cure his homesickness. It's adorable.

If you like jrpgs, look it up (I can also recommend Mother 3, which is the sequel to Earthbound, a lot darker in its atmosphere but great nonetheless).

Lately I've been trying to make a list of my "important games from the past". Earthbound was something I really hyped about and I remembered a certain fan comic which was a bit of an inspiration to try to make some comics. I wanted to find it again but since it was over a decade ago it was unlikely I'd be able to. That's when I remembered Starmen.net - I went to see if the comic was still there. After some digging ..yeah, it was. Oh the nostalgia. ;_; And speaking of Starmen.net, it was nice to see that the site is still very much alive and kicking. That said, I was never a very visible part of the fandom, I just lurked in the shadows, appreciated the fan art and found some tips about the game.
